My Kind of Hero
One of the best things about writing romance novels is that you get to create your perfect man, and then make him fall in love with…well…you.Kinda.Not exactly, of course—none of my heroines are just like me. But there’s a piece of me in each of them, and while I’m writing them, I live inside their brains (and they live inside mine). So when that perfect man touches my heroine’s cheek? Yeah, I shiver a little. It’s part of my experience of writing. My heroes change, of course, with each book. I’ve written about rogues, tricksters, and pirates. In my 2011 release, RADIANT DESIRE, I fell in love with my cynical real estate mogul, Garrett Jameson, who had a lonely little boy inside of him waiting to be healed. In my new book, RULES OF NEGOTIATION, my hero Brit Bencher is an overprotective (and bossy) big brother willing to do anything to help his sister. But as much as my heroes change, there are commonalities among all of them. First, they’ve all got to bring the sexy. Let’s be real. I’m writing romance, and I’m writing about my fantasy hero! Of course he’s going to be hotter than blazes. J Tall? Yes. Broad shoulders? No doubt. Lean waist, six pack? Yes yes yes. Brit’s got that dark, Italian beauty, while Garrett is tanned and blonde. If you ask me, sexy comes in many forms.Next, they’re protective. Even when they’re being jerks because of some past heartbreak or misplaced insecurity, they’re protective of the heroine, their family, and anyone who falls under their sphere of responsibility. This is terribly old-fashioned of me, but I find a man protecting his mate to be one of the sexiest things in the world. Then, they’ve got to be damn good at something. The something varies. For some, it’s business. Others are good at acting. Right now, I’m working on a hero who’s an Indiana Jones sort of professor. Wicked smart, and very handy if you’re lost in the wilderness. (In more ways than one!) In RULES, Brit has a knack for business that turned a small, failing family business into a multi-million dollar corporation. And perhaps most importantly? These guys know how to love. Deeply. When they fall, they don’t fall a little. They fall heart and soul. They fall so hard, they’re willing to do anything to get the girl. Now who wouldn’t want that?So that’s my favorite kind of hero—what’s yours? There’s a copy of RULES in it for one commentor!About Rules of NegotiationShe made all the rules…After juggling the demands of her career and the stress of caring for her ailing mother, high-powered corporate attorney Tori Anderson doesn’t have time for relationships—but that doesn’t mean she doesn’t want to feel like a woman. Rules of Negotiation sounds very, very intriguing. She made all the rules only for him to break them. It also makes me wonder what happens when she discovers his original intent. Great interview.

ReplyDeleteThanks for the post - I'm intrigued by this one ... I like the whole "hidden secrets" trope, especially with the hero!
ReplyDeleteI also like the strong woman who just wants a fling scenario - can be a very hot read :-)
